The concept which has become known as fair trade was quite novel at the time. Nevertheless, we sourced local artists to hand manufacture our cloisonne pieces in very remote corners of the world.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eBecause of the fashion-forward designs and intricate hand manufacturing, our pieces were featured on the cover of Vogue, among other publications. Many of them were quite iconic of the era.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe Shashi, Laurel and Thousand Flowers pieces here are vintage (in that they were manufactured a long time ago), and new (in that they have never been used). He would take a few thousand dollars to exotic locations and buy merchandise, which he then sold wholesale at trade shows in New York. He built strategic relationships in Singapore, Indonesia and China and soon began manufacturing his own line of clothing and jewelry.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eShashi Inc manufactured jewelry in the 1960s, 1970s and 1980s with showrooms in New York City and San Francisco. We've been featured on the cover a Vogue Magazine (a few times) as well as other fashion publications.
