In 1939 a large 7th century rowing boat was found east of the river Deben in Suffolk, England, buried under a mound near Sutton Hoo. It turned out to be a funeral monument to a Saxon king and held the finest and most complete collection of Anglo-Saxon jewelry ever discovered.
